What Is Passport Seva?

Passport Seva Kendra is the official online passport service system of the Government of India, launched by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to make passport-related services simple, fast, and transparent for citizens.

🏛️

Earlier, people had to visit passport offices multiple times, stand in long queues, and had to pay extra charges to agents.

💻

With the launch of the Passport Seva online portal, most of the passport process is now digital from application to delivery tracking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Login ID or User ID is the email address you used during registration on the Passport Seva portal. This is what you use to log in along with your password or OTP. Make sure to use the same email for all future communications.

If you forget your login ID, visit the Passport Seva login page and click “Forgot Login ID”. Enter your registered email or mobile number, and the portal will guide you to get your Login ID securely via email.

You can log in using your registered email (Login ID) and password. Alternatively, you can select OTP login, which will send a one-time password to your registered email. Once logged in, you can access your dashboard to apply, track, or modify appointments.

Typically, a visit to a PSK takes 1–2 hours for document verification, biometrics, and photograph capture. This can vary depending on the PSK location and the number of applicants on that day. Arriving 15–30 minutes early with all required documents is recommended.

Draft applications that are saved but not submitted can be deleted by logging in, going to View Saved/Submitted Applications, selecting the draft, and clicking Delete. Submitted applications cannot be deleted online.

The Regional Passport Office (RPO) is linked to your current residential address. To change it, log in, go to Saved Applications, and edit the RPO selection. Ensure it matches your current residence, not your hometown.

Once your application is submitted and payment is complete, you can schedule a date and time at your chosen PSK. If plans change, you should reschedule twice but make sure to cancel it before the appointment date. To cancel, log in to the portal, view submitted applications, and select Cancel Appointment.

Login to your account, go to Profile, and edit your mobile number. The portal will send an OTP to verify the new number.

Documents such as Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID, proof of address, and proof of date of birth must be scanned and uploaded in PDF or JPG format during application. Ensure the files are clear and complete, and always carry the originals for verification at the PSK.

Currently, the portal does not allow users to delete accounts online. If necessary, you must contact your nearest PSK or the Passport Seva customer care for assistance.

If a payment does not show in the portal, use the Track Payment option. Payments are refunded automatically if unsuccessful. Avoid paying twice unless confirmed.

An Identity Certificate is issued for persons who do not have a passport but need to travel or prove identity, such as Tibetan refugees or stateless individuals.

A Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) is required for jobs, immigration, or long-term visas abroad. It can be applied online via the Passport Seva portal and requires identity and address proofs.

Non-ECR stands for Emigration Check Not Required. Applicants with education of 10th standard or higher qualify for Non-ECR status. Non-ECR passports allow travel to certain countries without additional emigration checks.

For first-time applicants, select Fresh Passport. For expired, lost, or damaged passports, select Re-issue. Complete all required steps and book an appointment at the PSK.

A normal passport takes 7–15 days for processing, plus 2–3 days for delivery after police verification. Tatkal passports are usually processed within 1–7 days.
